All of us are subject to pre-judgemnt…or prejudice in some way or another. But the good news is that Jesus knows all about it…and is on the side of those who are being victimized…as revealed by his relationship with Samaritans.
Samaritan prejudice began centuries before Jesus (2 Ki 17:1-41) and it was a sin he wanted to address in various ways throughout his ministry:
1) With the Samaritan woman at the well (Jn 4:1-24)
2) With the Samaritan leper who returned to give thanks (Lk 17:11-19)
3) With the bigoted lawyer who needed to hear about a “good” Samaritan (Lk 10:25-37)
4) With the Samaritans who rejected Jesus (Lk 9:51-56)
Maybe all of us need a fresh look at the un-prejudiced Jesus and try to walk a mile in his shoes if not those of the people who we tend to pre-judge.
