Last month I have been inviting
everyone at HarborPointe to follow Jesus into the Light. Nothing
seems more appropriate to do. Indeed, Jesus said he was the Light
of the World…and that we, too, were the light of the world as
we reflect Jesus’ light to others.
But this month I want to switch gears
and invite you to follow Jesus into the Darkness… the Darkness of
the Storm and the Night and the Cross. For in one sense we will never
appreciate the Light until we have followed Jesus where no light
seems to shine.
I was talking to someone recently who
pointed out to me that God has done some of his finest work in the
Darkness. For instance, God created the heavens and the earth prior
to creating light. God parted the Red Sea under the cover of
darkness. God even raised Jesus from the dead before the sun had
arisen.
Every night, as you and I sleep, the
marvelous, renewing and restoring work of God is done in our bodies
and in our world as we awaken afresh to the newest of day and God’s
recreation.
So let us follow Jesus into the
Darkness and see what we learn. Maybe this will be a wonderful
precursor to season of Lent or Springtime in our soul. |
