“Now, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Romans 8:37-39 (NIV)
I remember reading these words the night before I began the seventh grade. With exhilaration and excitement, I set my Bible down and ran to the phone in the kitchen. I called my dad and exclaimed, “Dad, I’m excited about God!” This was the beginning of a deep longing to know God and be known by Him.
As I grew, God led me down a path I sometimes hated, but always ended up being thankful for. He filled my heart with a new song every day. He gave me poetry to write. He gave me the lyrics of passionate God-lovers to listen to. As a young teen, He drew me away from sports and pulled me into playing music and soon doing music ministry. I began to see how from my childhood God had ingrained music in me as a key way that I would bring Him glory.
Today, I am the worship leader at HarborPointe Community Church—a gift from God I never expected. I suppose I usually do not expect what God has planned for me, though. Now, I am able to share the song of praise and passion that God began orchestrating in me since I was a little boy. I am so thankful to be a part of Christ’s work in Hampton. He has given me every single thing I have.
Dear Lord, Who am I that You, the God who holds the universe in His hands and breathed life into everything that is, loves me and gives me purpose. May Your name be praised and may glory be brought to You in me and in all things forever and ever. May our worship be a constant state of our heart and minds, and let our worship be reflected in our actions always. In the powerful name of Jesus Christ, who is God and is the Savior of all creation, Amen. |
